Ph.D. Program in Molecular Medicine

Ziauddin University is pleased to announce HEC approved Ph.D. program in Molecular Medicine. This program will provide a multidisciplinary approach with a team of physicians and scientists working together for generating new knowledge in the field of medicine and therapeutics. Molecular Medicine is an interdisciplinary training program fostering the development of scientists and clinicians who are prepared for lifelong participation in research and other intellectual pursuits. With an emphasis on bridging basic and translational science, Molecular Medicine students would receive advanced training in the theory and practice of biomedical science. All students will be required to conduct thesis research that provides hands-on experience in molecular biology techniques, cell culture, and genetic techniques. The program will cover the fields of Molecular Genetics, Cellular and Molecular Biology, Microbiology, Molecular Pathology, Physiology, Immunology, Cancer Biology, Biotechnology, Proteomics, Regenerative Medicine, Molecular Pharmacology, and Bioinformatics.

Salient Features

  • State-of-the-art multidisciplinary research labs
  • Wide spectrum of courses and research areas
  • Highly qualified and foreign-trained Ph.D. faculty members
  • Opportunities to collaborate with local and foreign universities
  • Participation in Workshops/Seminars/Conferences
  • Convenient class schedule
  • Cost-effective fee structure

Scope of the Program

Molecular medicine is a comprehensive field that aims to provide insight to researchers regarding the development of molecular biology tools and the identification of molecular targets for the diagnosis, prognosis and treatment of a diverse number of human diseases.

The value of the Molecular Medicine Ph.D. program is to develop human resources with knowledge and skills that have widespread applications in both basic sciences and clinical work at medical institutions, research and development (R & D) organizations, pharmaceutical industry, molecular biology laboratories and clinical labs etc.

Since all the subject areas in Molecular medicine as per with advances in techniques are being explored at the molecular genetic level, therefore this generic degree would be relevant to all the disciplines eligibility criteria. The research degree would always be an additional academic qualification in all fields, particularly for clinical faculty giving them a research edge for promotions on various academic posts. Training based education is largely focused on high-quality clinical care but the academic institutions require additional research acumen for the generation of new knowledge from evidence-based medicine therefore; they can work as research associates/ research officers and scientists in clinical departments.

Admission Requirements

Candidates applying for admission to the Molecular Medicine Ph.D. program should have a minimum of 18 years of education, MS/MPhil/MD/MS/FCPS, FRCS, MRCP or equivalent degree with first division and CGPA of 3.00 on a scale of 4.00 or overall, 60% marks in annual system or equivalent in the relevant subject is a prerequisite from any recognized University. In the case of a foreign degree, it will be ascertained that it is equivalent to a Pakistani MPhil/ MS degree from any recognized University / Institution. Admission will be confirmed only after passing the ZU entry test (GAT) and interview conducted by ZU.

The test carries both the subject-specific components (70%) along with English Language and Analytical/Logical Reasoning (30%).

The final selection of candidates will be based on cumulative merit determined from the previous academic record, experience, entry test and interview.

Ph.D. degree program will be open to all those who qualify for the admission criteria. However, serving candidates will have to submit N.O.C from their respective departments along with the application form. A study leave document from their respective employer for a period of two years has to be submitted at the time of admission.
