Diploma in Medical Jurisprudence

Introduction

Diploma in Medical Jurisprudence is a two-year postgraduate diploma program to train and equip medical graduates with the relevant professional and ethical knowledge to perform in the medicolegal section of a primary or tertiary care hospital, or to serve in the academic arena as faculty of Forensic Medicine & Toxicology.

Mission Statement

To produce physicians having the legal and ethical insight to serve as better medicolegal experts and to improve the medicolegal system of the country by academic contribution.

Objectives

The training will develop the academic insight and competency within the enrolled candidates to,

  • Conduct medicolegal examinations and autopsies fulfilling all the requirements of the legal system of Pakistan.
  • To understand DNA fingerprinting, its application and limitations in resolving the cases of legal importance.
  • To understand the pathological basis of injury and signs that may provide clue to the cause of death.
  • To identify common lapses and limitations with in the prevailing Medicolegal system of the country and being able to provide suggestions to improve the system in the light of advancements in the field of Forensic Medicine.
  • To understand the laws governing the practice of healthcare provision along with the ethical concerns.
  • To serve as a medicolegal expert.

Eligibility Criteria

  • MBBS + One year House Job + Valid PM&DC Registration with, one year of teaching experience as demonstrator in the Department of Forensic Medicine & Toxicology, of a PM&DC recognized institute/One year experience as Medicolegal Officer.
  • Eligible Candidates will have to pass the entry test held by Ziauddin University.
  • Short-listed candidates will be interviewed.
  • Final Selection will be made on cumulative basis (Experience + Entry test + Interview).

Required Documents

Documents required for the admission

  • Completed DMJ application form
  • Copy of MBBS degree with mark sheets of professional examinations and certificate of number of attempts in the professional examinations.
  • Copy of PMDC registration certificate
  • Three latest passport size photographs
  • Reference letters from two consultants, with whom the applicant has worked
  • Certificates of completion of required experience
  • NOC to attend the course, from the institute (If currently employed).

Assessment

D.M.J Course consists of 2 parts of one year each that is PART I and PART II

After completion of each session (1 year), Ziauddin University, Karachi will conduct examination, as per schedule announced by the Controller of Examination.

Examinations will consists of two components.

Components:

  1. Theory Examination
  2. OSCE & Viva Examination.

80% attendance is mandatory to be eligible in the exams.

Year one – Rs 100,000/=
Year two– Rs 100,000/=

Scope

After going through this course, successfully, the candidate will be able to serve on the government positions within the Medicolegal system of the country.

The successful candidates serving as faculty members will have a better opportunity to be promoted as per rules and regulations of PM&DC.
